Tributo

A collaboration between Andrés Gutiérrez and Difane.

Tributo is a limited collection of residential furniture, conceived as an artistic exercise, through which Andrés reinterprets and blends concepts and graphic elements of Tribute in pre-Hispanic economy with contemporary lines.

The word Tributo refers to the tax obligation that the peoples of the Mexico Basin and its surroundings were required to pay to the Mexica government. The Tributo consisted of payments or offerings of basic agricultural items.

The tlamemes were the people responsible for carrying the tribute on their backs from the towns to the great Tenochtitlan. This series of pieces by Andrés Gutiérrez is inspired by illustrations from the Codex Mendoza, mixed with the Memphis style of the 1980s.
